Have your Cake and Lose Weight too....or just be a little healthier!

I was reminded today, that I'm not the only one who's knee's weaken as I pass a piece of chocolate cake. Will power is one thing, But having the will to adjust a recipe is another! I have lost 50 pounds in about 8 months. If you do the math, my weight loss didn't come off amazingly fast, but it came off.
(To avoid my rant, you can skip down to my cake recipe calorie saving swap outs!)
How did I lose it? Whats the secret?
No, secret - its common sense!
Eat Less, Move More! Did I starve? NO.
Did I banish my favorite guilt ridden foods? Not at all!
In diets past I've learned that depriving myself of flour, chocolate, sugar, and fat, only leads me straight to the cupboard or fridge in a banished food frenzy! And once the frenzy begins I think to myself "Ive already flushed my diet down the drain, might as well keep flushing away and add some extra icing to that piece of cake!"
Ive learned in the past 3 years to eat what I want just less of it! The other important guard is to choose foods you like already that provide a lot of protein and fiber that will satisfy you longer. And by doing so - it saves you calories to reserve for the higher calorie treat!
So here is my tip of the day:
Simple Calorie Saving Cake Mix Swap Outs!
Most cake mixes require oil and eggs (which means you get fat, calories and cholesterol!):
OIL - replace the oil with an equal amount of unsweetened apple sauce.
Eggs - I always use egg whites in place of whole eggs + 1 more egg white than what the cake recipe requires.
NOTE: Make sure the cake is completely cooled - if you eat the cake warm the applesauce flavor isn't hidden. Once the cake is cooled- you can't taste the applesauce at all!
The great part about these swap outs is the cake tastes the same! How great is that!
Now you have cut down on: Fat, Cholesterol, Calories, and some Guilt!!!!!!
ENJOY!
